Nyandu Safe Online Campaign: Protecting Girls in the Digital Age

Her Voice, Her Space, Her Safety

The Nyandu Spark Initiative has launched the Nyandu Safe Online Campaign following the enactment of South Sudan’s Cybercrimes and Computer Misuse Act (2026), the country’s first comprehensive law regulating online activity. This law criminalizes cyber offenses, addresses harmful content on social media, and emphasizes protection for vulnerable groups, especially children and women.

Online abuse is not merely virtual. Digital harassment, threats, and non‑consensual sharing of content contribute to gender‑based violence, stigma, and victim‑blaming, leaving many girls afraid to speak out or seek support. NSI’s campaign bridges this new legal framework with survivor‑led mentorship, psychosocial support, and advocacy, ensuring the law translates into real protection for girls.

What NSI Is Doing

  • Equipping girls and families with digital literacy and online safety tools
  • Advocating for gender‑responsive implementation of the new cybercrime law
  • Providing psychosocial support to survivors of online abuse
  • Challenging stigma and promoting accountability in digital spaces

At NSI, we believe that an empowered girl online is a leader offline. Protecting her digital dignity means protecting her future.

Call for Action

NSI calls on government institutions, civil society, and international partners to invest in:

  • Digital safety education
  • Mental health services
  • Stronger accountability mechanisms

Families and communities are encouraged to support girls in navigating both their physical and digital spaces safely.
